Kerala Fish Molee

A mild Kerala fish curry made with coconut milk, ginger, green chillies, tomato, and curry leaves.

Kerala Fish Molee

Ingredients

  • 600 grams firm white fish, cut into pieces
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1 inch ginger, julienned
  • 3 green chillies, slit
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 cup thin coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup thick coconut milk
  • 2 sprigs curry leaves
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • Salt to taste

Preparation

  1. Rub fish with turmeric and salt, then keep aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Warm coconut oil and saute onion, ginger, green chillies, and curry leaves until soft.
  3. Add tomato and cook briefly, keeping the slices intact.
  4. Pour in thin coconut milk, add the fish, and simmer until the fish is cooked.
  5. Add thick coconut milk and swirl the pan gently. Do not boil after this stage.
  6. Rest for a few minutes and serve with appam, bread, or steamed rice.
