Yam Fish Curry

Ingredients:

  • Yam – 1 cup (cut into pieces similar to fish chunks)
  • Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Tomato – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Ginger-Garlic Paste – 1 teaspoon
  • Curry Leaves – 1 sprig
  • Kudampuli (Dried Malabar Tamarind) – 2 small pieces (soaked in water)
  • Chilli Powder – 1 tablespoon
  • Turmeric Powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Pepper Powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Salt – as required
  • Grated Coconut – ½ cup
  • Mustard Seeds – ½ teaspoon
  • Coconut Oil – 2 tablespoons

Preparation Method:

  1. Clean and wash the yam thoroughly.
  2. Heat 1.5 tablespoons of coconut oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  3. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and ginger-garlic paste. Sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add chilli powder, turmeric powder, and pepper powder. Stir for a minute, then add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.
  5. Pour in the soaked kudampuli along with some water and bring it to a boil.
  6. Add yam pieces and salt, then cook for 10-15 minutes until well combined.
  7. Finally, add grated coconut and cook for another 2-3 minutes on low flame.
  8. Let the curry thicken, then turn off the heat. Cover and let it sit for a minute before serving.
